E-Twins bus crashes, no players hurt
Sad and startling news out of the Appalachian League this morning. The Elizabethton Twins’ bus was involved in a collision on a Florida interstate highway that killed the driver of the other vehicle. Thankfully, nobody on the Twins’ bus was injured.
Nathan Baker of the Elizabethton Star reported that the bus was travelling on Interstate 295 near Jacksonville, Fla. at approximately 4 a.m. when a driver heading the wrong direction crashed into the Twins’ bus. The bus, carrying 34 E-Twins players and three staff members, was en route to Tennessee from Minnesota’s spring training complex in Fort Myers, Fla.
E-Twins General Manager Mike Mains said the team is still expected to arrive in Tennessee, as scheduled, and will conduct its regular events on Wednesday. The Twins open up their season at home against the Bristol Sox on Thursday night.
We ask that you keep the victim of this unfortunate accident, as well as his family and the Twins’ family, in your thoughts and prayers, as they all try to deal with this morning’s tragedy.
